Writing - 4/5 stars // Characters - 3/5 stars // Plot - 4/5 stars // Intensity - 3/5 stars // Engagement - 4/5 stars // Overall - 34/5 stars

I enjoyed this book however, I definitely expected it to be better than it was. I love the cover and have heard great things about the book but it really wasn't anything special. It isn't one of those books that you just adore with all of your heart. More like one of those books you read when you've got nothing else to read. I don't really like to reread but if I chose to do so I would not choose to reread this book. It just didn't have the emotional impact I hoped it would.
Writing
I really like Margaret Rogerson's writing style. I thought that everything was described perfectly and she really brought the world inside her book to life without a crazy amount of world building. I also felt that because the story was only told from one point of view it didn't have as much depth as it could have with a second point of view. There were so many characters in this story that didn't get much attention but were stronger than the main characters.
Characters
The characters in this book are all interesting enough. I found that I had no real way to connect with these characters. It felt like I was watching from the outside and didn't really care about the characters too much. I thought that the relationship between the two main characters was very rushed so the story had much less emotion and feeling involved with it. I didn't care much for the main characters but I found myself appreciating the side characters much more. They were just more interesting than the two main characters.
Plot
I really enjoyed the plot. I thought it was exciting and it had a couple twists and turns that were super fun! It wasn't the greatest thing in the world, but it was pleasant.
Intensity
This book is not intense at all. I felt that because everything felt so rushed I didn't really care about the characters, therefor, moments that were meant to be intense simply weren't. There is a bit of violence but it's nothing too bad. It's an easy read.
Engagement
For the most part, I thought this book was very on and off with the engagement aspect. For some sections of the book I couldn't stop reading whereas other parts I actually fell asleep! If you get bored easily and need a constant page-turner I don't recommend this book.
Overall
Overall this book was a nice, easy read. It wasn't anything too special but it is worth a try. If you like the Insta-Love trope and are looking for a quick, fantasy read try picking this up. I didn't LOVE it, but I think it was still worth the read.
